“Encountering another’s story, and recognizing the traces of history that bear upon our lives, help us imagine how our lives could be different, suggesting paths that might not have naturally occurred to us...There’s a power in being able to recognize our struggles as the result of paradoxes we live within rather than seeing them as purely private failings.” - Hua Hsu

reflections on issue one: self healing

“i am so shocked by the data around mental health as it pertains to Asian American women. i feel inspired and empowered to help young Asian Americans now and help them know they aren’t alone.”

“the main word that comes to mind is "centering" -- it's very grounding to learn your own history and accept yourself. possibly the two most radical things in life! i can see this turning into an entire series as people discover they are not alone.”

“it is our generation's responsibility to begin to unpack generations of trauma and suppression. the solidarity and historical context this gives really helps ground that and makes it less of a solitary experience.”

“this is such a thoughtful, thorough piece of art. i felt surprised, angry, and hopeful in response to the information and research presented. what felt the most comforting unique about this zine, though, was how the information was delivered. so candid and personable. it lovingly shares and encourages the reader to do the same.”

“there needs to be more visibility and more conversations on these topics / among Asian American femmes because there is a recurring theme of feelings of isolation / not being validated / feeling alone in struggles in the Asian diaspora, but there are so many of us here that should be connecting more!”

“this is the missing need for so many ASIAN FEMMES! need being for more visibility, conversation, acknowledgment of our unique and shared experiences.”
